Mixed Media Art : War Nurse

Was doing some research for my family tree tonight and was filling in some blanks for my Great Aunt Mary who is 91 and an amazing woman!

We had a family reunion July gone and she was awarded an Life Time Achievement Award for being the founder and her involvement in School Nurses International  (History of this amazing Organization is in the link if your interested).

At the reunion we got to talking about Mary's brother David who passed a few years ago who was an artist as are alot of the Wright family members - clearly plaint runs in our blood :-)

David did alot of mixed media painting and used family photos in some of his artwork so I had the urge to try some out tonight.

I really don't know how but my inspiration came from this image I saw on google. Looks nothing light it but the rays in background got me thinking spotlights and the thinking bubble I dont know how but made me think of the Barrage balloons.

WW2 inspired mixed media. St.Paul's Cathedral surviving the blitz, spotlights lighting sky looking for planes and my Great Aunt Mary in her nurse uniform during this time.

I am not very good at painting but like to practice. Hopefully Aunt Mary will not mind me using her photo in this.

Sam's Scrapbook Process : If there ever comes a day

Good Evening All

Happy New Year this is my first post for 2014 and its slightly a sad subject ive scrapped.

Its a heritage layout I have been working on for the past few days and the journaling is what took the longest as I really didn't know what to right. The photo is of my great aunt and uncle who died age 3 and 4 of Diphtheria in 1934. It is the only photo we have of them and I believe this photo was taken a month or so before they died of the disease. Very sad as my great grandmother also lost another son age 5 to the same thing 2 years earlier in 1931 but there is no photo of him.

I have had the photo for quite a few years and wanted to go with a vintage nursery theme but didn't know how to do it.

Sam's Scrapbook Process : Happily Ever After

Hi

Hope everyone is well.

Haven't been scrapbooking lately just joining in the YTLH once a month and am getting quite behind in my albums. I am also trying to get a start on my Christmas cards as I dont want to leave it till the last minute as always.

Anyways since I am scrapping some of my family history photos I thought I would scrap some of my nan and grandad's wedding photos there were hundreds to choose from but I just went with 3 for this layout.

Used:
Paper - Colorbök - Homespun Paper Collection
Studio112 - Family & Friends Vellum Quotes
Butter-cream and Maroon Card stock

Adam bought me a Silhouette Cameo for my birthday which I have been asking for quite a few years.

I am still learning how to use it and trying to keep it boxed while not using it as we are still decorating my new craftroom.

I cut out the title from the Silhouette online store:
they lived happily ever after by Megan Hardy Designs

Sam's Scrapbook Process : 1956

Hi

Hope everyone is well

We have been clearing my nan's house to sell as she has moved in with my parents and I have claimed all photographs from her house. While going through them I came across some professional photos my nan had done when she was about 20. I also came across some love letters my grandad sent to her while he was away in the army.  The were very lovely dovey and  I really don't remember my grandad being like that, so I thought I'd incorporate the envelope on the layout which has my nan's old address (which has all been knocked down now) and it had the date and where my grandad posted it from.

Used:
Colorbök - Homespun Paper Collection
Vintage Lace
Doiley
Pearl Gems
Buttons

I love these photos of my nan. I changed my mind on the title as I was going to name it "Miss Deptford" (which was a beauty contest someone told me me nan won) But I thought I'd check and get correct date from her. She told me she never entered a beauty contest as she was far to shy! so 1. not sure who told me that tale! and 2. Yea she doesn't look shy in these photos!!

I can see where my mam gets her features from looking at these photos. I definitely don't take after my mam's side I looks like my dad's side.

On a none craft related point I got a job finally - its been nearly 8 months! I start Hays Travel (as customer service advisor for people who have booked holidays with Hays) on Monday and cant wait!

Thanks so much to taking the time to view and comment its much appreciated
